State Representative Adrian Madaro WF ’06
Adrian Madaro is a child of Italian immigrants and grew up in East Boston. He fondly remembers fighting for environmental justice as a child growing up in a neighborhood that faces many environmental issues originating from Logan Airport. He continues this fight as a State Representative. Madaro worked for his predecessor Carlo Basile as his chief of staff for four years and when Basile took a role in the governor’s office Madaro decided to run for his seat. Madaro’s ability to connect with voters allowed him to win election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2015. Since then, Madaro has advocated for those in his East Boston community by pushing for bills that strengthen Massachusetts’ public transportation systems, prioritize environmental justice goals, protect East Boston’s vibrant immigrant communities, and enrich quality of life through the expansion of green spaces. Madaro also dedicates his time outside of the office to ensuring the health and wellbeing of his constituents. He sits on multiple non-profit boards and is a founding member of an organization that supports those suffering from substance abuse disorder, the East Boston Alliance for Support, Treatment, Intervention, and Education (EASTIE). At the State House, Madaro also works to protect unhoused and using populations by chairing the Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery, as well as many others. State Representative Madaro credits his interest in government to his time spent in the Ward Fellowship, interning at Boston City Hall.
