State Representative Adrian Madaro WF ’06

Eagle Hill. Environmental Justice. Public Servant. These words come to mind when State Representative Adrian Madaro is mentioned. As a life-long East Boston resident, Adrian knows the importance of a strong community. His family’s background as immigrants reflect Eastie’s identity as a historically immigrant community. Some of his earliest memories are his community involvement in environmental advocacy protests to protect his neighborhood. He was specifically inspired by Eastie’s history of organizing against expansions of the airport, which was built upon the Wood Island Park, a beautiful neighborhood gem. Growing up, Adrian attended Boston Latin School and was named a Ward Fellow in 2006. His experience with the Fellowship sparked his interest in public service and he credits it with his success today. He went on to get his Bachelors and Masters degrees at Tufts University, just north of Boston and began working for East Boston’s State Representative Carlo Basile. Then, in 2014-15, he had the opportunity to run for the seat, the 1st Suffolk District, and won a close race against another strong candidate. As a 27 year old, Madaro was the youngest legislator at the time, but his age didn’t stop him from making his mark as a representative. To better himself as a public servant, he attended Suffolk Law School at night and was even sworn in as a lawyer over Zoom. Adrian’s notable accomplishments as a representative include appointment as Vice Chair of the Transportation Joint Committee and his position now the House Chair of the Mental Health, Substance Use, and Recovery Joint Committee.
