Boston Public Schools Administrator Rashaun Martin WF ’96

The Boston Public Schools system has been the object of much change and criticism over the recent years. It has surmounted various challenges and combated many difficulties. Mr. Rashaun Martin first joined the BPS team in 2019, and has worked since in increasing retention and diversity in the system.

He graduated from Boston Latin School in 1997 and continued his education at the Catholic University of America for a Bachelor of Arts in History. Later, he obtained a Masters in Teaching and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) in Educational Leadership at Simmons University. He then returned to his alma mater as a history teacher until 2010, cultivating generations of Boston Latin School students. Later, Martin took on roles in various other schools and school districts until finally returning back to Boston’s public school system where he works to this day, recently taking on the role of Acting Managing Director of Retention, Cultivation & Diversity Programs. As part of his work, Martin actively works to recruit and retain diverse staff and faculty throughout the district, ranging from librarians to full-time teachers.

He has also been the recipient of many honors and awards, highlighting his illustrious career as an advocate for equity and diversity across Massachusetts. The effects of his efforts span the teachers, students, and every facet of BPS.

Mr. Martin is also one of the kindest souls I have had the pleasure of meeting. Ever since I first met him, I have never seen him without a smile on his face. His presence radiates a warmth and sense of welcome seldom seen in many other parts of America today. Always willing to support, to help, it has been my absolute pleasure to work with him this summer.
