Boston Mayor Michelle Wu
Born to an immigrant family in Chicago, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu moved to Boston to pursue higher education. Since coming to Massachusetts, Wu has truly made Boston her home, raising her children in Roslindale and enrolling them in Boston Public Schools. Michelle Wu began her distinguished career in city government as an intern for then Mayor Thomas Menino. She gained a deep understanding of the issues facing Boston during her time as a city councilor and on the senatorial campaign of Elizabeth Warren. The Mayor has been described as a “Warrenite”, a reference to her close connection with the US Senator from Massachusetts, Wu’s mentor and former law professor. Wu won her mayoral election in a landslide, with a broad mandate from across the city of Boston. Mayor Wu has delivered real change in her time in office. By employing her progressive values and people-first brand of politics, Mayor Wu has advocated for the implementation of a Green New Deal for Boston through a comprehensive project of city property renewal and regulation and brought forth other policy goals.
