Boston City Councilor John Fitzgerald ’00
John Fitzgerald grew up in a tight-knit family with his mother Patricia who was a nurse, his father Kevin who served for 28 years as a State Representative, and his 3 younger brothers. John learned from his family important values such as hard work, humility, and community service. While attending Boston Latin School, John joined the Mayor’s Youth Council where he represented youth across the city. John later attended Northeastern University where he received his bachelor’s in communications and his master’s in business administration. John has been working for the city since he graduated and has held a number of key positions over the years, including deputy director of Imagine Boston 2030, Director of Finance for the Office of Economic Development, and Deputy Director Of Real Estate Operations. John has always been committed to helping the community in ways additional to the time he spends in the office dedicated to public service. He has served as President of the Tobin Community Center for the last 20 years and is a lead organizer for Team Fitz, an organization established following his father’s death from cancer which allows bikers to raise money by competing in the Pan-Mass Challenge. Since its creation, Team Fitz has raised over a million dollars for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Today, John lives in Dorchester with his wife Meghan who teaches in the Boston Public School system and his three kids. He also coaches T-Ball, Flag Football, and Street Hockey. John is proud to represent District 3 on the Boston City Council and works extremely hard to give back to the community and city which has given him so much.
