Arianna Sun grew up in the Washington, D.C area and moved to Boston at the age of 11. Raised by her immigrant parents and grandparents, she learned the importance of self-advocacy.

As she grew older, she began advocating for others. She is the founder and president of NoVasta, a global food rescue organization that transports excess food to local food banks and shelters and advocates for anti-waste legislation with the Zero Food Waste Coalition. Her volunteer work has helped her better understand many community members’ concerns, whether around food insecurity or food waste, and the importance of integrating their needs into policy.

Last summer, she interned at the Supreme Judicial Court’s Clerk Office under Clerk Maura Doyle through the Judicial Youth Corps. Through her experience, she was able to meet community members from every step of the judicial system and came to appreciate the importance of hearing each individual’s perspective.

At Boston Latin, she has been an active member of mock trial and moot court since 8th grade and has deepened her interest in the legal system and learning how precedent shapes the interpretation and application of the law.

During her time with the Ward Fellowship interning with Governor Maura Healey, Arianna hopes to explore how policy can reflect the voices of communities, through food justice, legal outreach and civic engagement.
