William Liyuan has been involved in the community all his life. As a child, thanks to the efforts of those around him, William experienced the nurturing warmth of community through activities such as volunteering at the food bank with his family and visiting senior centers with his school. These experiences fostered in him a deep appreciation for teamwork and service.

William has brought this love for community to his time at Boston Latin. William created the history club after realizing with disappointment that one did not already exist. He envisioned the club as a safe place to discuss all things history, and beyond that, any matter of policy, politics, and philosophy. It brings William joy to see those around him share their voice and be part of a community of like-minded learners. The experience of building a thriving community inspired William to public service. As a rising senior, William hopes that the club will continue to be of benefit to future generations in a school so full of history and tradition.

William is part of the debate team, where he has discovered a penchant for research, argumentation, and late-night strategy sessions. He especially relishes debating everything foreign and public policy related. William believes that history shapes the policy we make, and our policies shape how we perceive history.

Working for Mayor Michelle Wu this summer, William hopes to make an impact by supporting strategic initiatives across the great city of Boston and serve the community by actively engaging with constituents. In the future, William hopes to combine his interest in history and science with his commitment to serving the general good.
