Vicky Su is a rising senior at Boston Latin School. She was born and raised in Brighton, MA, to first-generation immigrants from China and Taiwan.
Vicky discovered her interest in public service after becoming an intern for the Office of Police Accountability and Transparency (OPAT) during her freshman year. At OPAT, she was shocked to discover the deep-rooted inequalities within the criminal justice system. This experience sparked her deep passion for creating change.
Since then, Vicky has become a civic leader in her community. In school, she is the Vice President of the Recycling Committee, helping make Boston Latin a more environmentally sustainable institution. Her belief that journalism is crucial in a democracy has led her to serve as the Head Copy Editor for the Argo, the school newspaper, and the Literature Editor-in-Chief of the Register, the school magazine.
Outside of school, Vicky is a youth advocate at the Asian Community Development Corporation, where she works to improve language injustice in immigrant neighborhoods. Last summer, she was an intern for Harvard’s Department of Public Affairs and Communications, where she had the opportunity to visit many partner organizations and charities. This taught her the importance of forming and maintaining relationships in her community as a public servant.
Vicky is excited to continue her work in public service as the Ward Fellow for Boston Mayor Michelle Wu this summer. Through the Fellowship, she hopes to learn more about how the government works to serve its constituents and how she can make an impact on the issues she cares about.
