Minh Nguyen immigrated from Vietnam alongside his parents in 2010. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Dorchester and is now currently residing in Mattapan. This fall, Minh will be studying Political Science at American University in Washington D.C.
During his time at Boston Latin School, he served as the Senior Class Secretary. His display of charisma and confidence appealed to his peers, securing him the election. He was able to use his leadership skills alongside his fellow officers to unite the class, fundraise, and plan for events. Additionally he contributed to the BLS Theatre Black Box, where he helped build sets and learn the fundamentals to acting and improvising.
Outside of school, he volunteers at the Mary Ann Brett Food Pantry at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish for the last five years. Growing up as an immigrant in the United States of America, Minh always understood the difficulties and hardship of being an immigrant that was displayed on the news and media. At the pantry, he is able to assist those who are going through a similar situation as him. He assists in providing nutritious groceries and basic human needs to individuals and families facing economic hardship and living in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston.
The pantry also provided Minh an opportunity to meet with local and federal politicians during their Annual St. Patrick’s Day Brunch. He was able to meet amazing politicians such as Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Congressman Stephen Lynch, Governor Maura Healey, Mayor Michelle Wu, State Senator Nick Collins, and many more. Hearing their stories and speeches about working hard and wanting to speak for those who are not heard inspired him to one day run for office, pass legislation, and create change.
