Jermaine Garcia Cameron is a junior at Boston Latin School. As an Afro-Latino scholar, Jermaine embodies the schools core values-THRIVE-through his dedication and determination in academics, athletics, arts, and community engagement. As a varsity football player for the BLS Wolfpack, Jermaine utilizes skills of leadership and teamwork on the field. Off the field, he is an active member of clubs-Young Men of Color and BLS Black, both of which aim to exemplify inclusivity and imbue community engagement within the institution. Jermaine’s passion for the arts is evident in his work as a photography intern at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston. There, he hones his skills in visual storytelling through collaboration with the BRC to preserve Boston’s rich artistic culture. Demonstrating a commitment to educational equity, Jermaine manages the media campaign of “Win the Day” , an initiative designed to improve student attendance through incentive-based programs. Jermaine’s multifaceted experiences and passion for public service has led him to the John William Ward Fellowship. During this time within the fellowship, he will work under the mentorship of Rashaun J. Martin, a Boston Public School’s administrator who Manages Recruitment, Cultivation, and Diversity Programs. Martin, a 1996 Ward Fellow alumnus, is known for his efforts in challenging systemic racism within BPS. This is especially seen in his dedication to diversifying the educator workforce. Through the Ward Fellowship, Jermaine hopes to invigorate his passion for aiding the community, contributing to initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion within Boston’s education system. His journey reflects leadership, creativity, and community empowerment.
