Ikra Abbasi is a rising senior at Boston Latin School, and she has a strong interest in being a strong representative of advocacy for those who may not be able to.

Throughout her internship this past school year with Boston’s Mayor Youth Council, Ikra learned quickly that youth voices needed to be amplified in government and legislation. So, working with non-profit organizations, she created a youth violence personalized protocol that all youth can access whenever they need guidance on who to ask for help if needed after a traumatic event.

Last summer, she interned as a Deitch Fellow at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court through the Judicial Youth Corps. She was able to watch federal court cases, work with Judge Woolojihan’s law clerks to write briefs, and shadow judges all around Massachusetts, prominently including Judge Connor Barusch, Judge Kathleen Coffey, and Judge Peter Krupp of Norfolk Superior Court.

At BLS, Ikra is the Vice Captain of the Speech&Debate Team, with over 3 years of experience in Congressional Debate, which has over time, given her more confidence in public speaking and drove a path towards pursuing a job in law.

During her time at Ward interning with Judge Steven Key of the Boston Municipal Court, she hopes to gain more legal knowledge and see how public service for citizens can be reflected kindly within our justice system.
