Elizabeth Sculley, called Liz by her friends, is a seventeen year rising senior at Boston Latin School. She is very involved in music, both in and out of BLS. Liz has been taking private piano lessons since second grade, and spends much of her time during the year practicing and performing. She is the pianist for the Boston Latin School Big Band, Show Choir, and plays keyboard in the BLS Football Band. Liz also sings in the BLS Concert Choir.

Outside of school, almost every Sunday, Liz accompanies a children’s choir at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth. In the little spare time she has between practicing and homework, she enjoys reading, writing, and driving her friends around the city. Together, they go to the movies, try out new restaurants, and watch baseball games. Although Liz has always been a big baseball fan – she grew up attending weekly games at Pawtucket to see her cousin play – she has lately become an even bigger football fan, and loves to have people over to watch the games. Liz has spent all of her previous summers doing music related activities – ranging from theatre camp to band camp to the Berklee College of Music 5 Week Performance Program. Liz is interested in becoming a professional musician – preferably a pianist and musical therapist. However, she wanted to use this summer to explore other possible professions and walks of life. Her mother is a nurse in the public schools, and because of her stories about the children she meets, Liz has become interested in social work.

Especially after taking the Facing History course at BLS – a history course that deals with the somewhat darker sides of the past, Liz became more interested in policy making and the government. Liz hopes to eventually attend a college in or around New York City, where she can experience all the culture and arts the city has to offer. She looks forward to living in a place which offers some of the best museums and musical institutions in the world, but for now is happy to attend the Symphony, Pops, and, during the summer, outdoor concerts at Tanglewood. Liz’s sponsor this summer is the Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey.
