Cynthia Wang is a rising senior at Boston Latin School and a proud daughter of Chinese immigrants, currently residing in West Roxbury. Shaped by the values of her Chinese and Mongolian heritage and the support of a close-knit community, Cynthia is deeply committed to public service, cultural advocacy, and equity-driven work.
She has worked extensively with the Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) on a number of community-based initiatives focused on enhancing the quality of life in Boston’s Chinatown. Her efforts have centered on strengthening food security support systems and advancing language justice, both critical to promoting access and inclusion for immigrant families. Additionally, Cynthia conducted an independent research project exploring the factors that impact household food security within the Asian immigrant community. This experience deepened her commitment to culturally responsive, data-informed advocacy.
At Boston Latin School, Cynthia continues her passion for service through leadership and volunteerism. As President of the Origami Club, she fosters a creative and welcoming space for students, while also coordinating collaborative efforts with other student-led organizations to support donation drives and community events. Additionally, as Co-founder of the BLS Financial Literacy Initiative, Cynthia is committed to addressing the financial knowledge gap among Boston Latin School students by promoting accessible and practical financial education.
In the summer of 2023, Cynthia was accepted into the Wharton Global Youth Summer Program, where she spent two weeks at the University of Pennsylvania studying the Principles of Finance. Summer of 2024, she interned at Tufts Medical Center, where she gained valuable insight into the intersection of healthcare and immigrant community needs in Chinatown.
Cynthia was drawn to the Ward Fellowship by her desire to further explore civic leadership and community advocacy through the lens of public policy. Though new to the legislative field, she is eager to learn more about policymaking and its vital role in shaping sustainable and equitable community change. As an intern in the office of Boston City Councilor John Fitzgerald, Cynthia looks forward to contributing meaningfully while expanding her understanding of local government and its impact.
