Catherine Ramirez will be graduating from Boston Latin School in 2025 and will be attending Northeastern University as a freshman in the fall. She was born and raised in South Boston but has Dominican roots.

Since her freshman year, she became a member of cultural club organizations such as Young Women of Color. Through these groups, she has participated in educational workshops, discussions and panels alongside peers and community leaders. These experiences have fostered her commitment to empowering young women to build confidence and navigate their professional paths. Her involvement has contributed to creating and sustaining a supportive, safe environment within a large and diverse school setting. In addition, beginning in 10th grade, she also volunteered as a student leader for the BLS McCarthy Institute of Academic Transition and Support. In this role, she built meaningful relationships with students who needed additional academic assistance or encouragement. Over the years, she has dedicated herself to boosting their confidence by tutoring in subjects such as algebra and latin study techniques. Beyond academic support, she has cultivated an environment where students feel seen, heard and empowered. Outside of BLS, Catherine has engaged with the greater Boston community with her summer job at Camp Harbor View. Since 9th grade, she has worked with kids who have helped her realize the importance of being dependable, approachable and patient. Serving as a trusted support system and mentor for younger kids has strengthened her passion in working in public service.

Catherine was driven to apply for the Ward Fellowship due to her enduring passion for law and government, as well as her aspiration to build a meaningful career within the court system. To her, this program is more than a stepping stone for professional development, but rather a foundation for a lifelong commitment to public service. She is excited to explore the intersection of law and public policy through her placement with Inspector General Jeff Shapiro.
