Since moving to Boston in the third grade, Alex has been an avid Chinatown supporter and West Roxbury resident. He will be attending Georgia Institute of Technology next year as a freshman as an aerospace engineering major.

Ever since moving to Boston, Alex has been involved in community service. From performing Chinese Yo-Yo at the West Roxbury Library or cleaning up the streets with his local Boy Scout troop, his involvement in the community has led him to notice issues in the way the residents of Boston treat the environment.

When observing the litter on the streets of Chinatown through his work in the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and researching about the effects of the interstate’s air emissions with the Asian Community Development Corporation, Alex developed an interest in environmentalism and sustainability.

Last year, Alex had the opportunity to work at Cabot Corporation as an intern and was able to learn about how private companies are able to maintain sustainability goals. This year, Alex has the opportunity to continue pursuing his interests of environmentalism through working alongside District One City Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata. Interning with the chair of the Environmental Justice, Resiliency, and Parks Committee, Alex hopes to explore the inner workings of the public sector’s way of tackling the city’s environmental issues.
