Michael Tran is a graduating senior at Boston Latin School and will be attending Boston University this fall, where he plans to study Economics while exploring opportunities in law, business, and public service.
Born and raised in Dorchester, Michael is the proud son of Vietnamese immigrants whose resilience and sacrifices have shaped his values of hard work, gratitude, and service. Growing up in a close-knit immigrant household, he learned from an early age the importance of giving back to the community that helped raise him. Whether assisting his grandparents, helping his family navigate language barriers, or serving his neighborhood, Michael has always been driven by a desire to uplift those around him.
Throughout high school, Michael has sought opportunities to make an impact both in and out of the classroom. He spent a summer interning at the Dorchester Courthouse through the Junior Youth Corps Program, where he gained firsthand insight into the legal system and developed a deeper appreciation for public service and advocacy. He also served as a Digital Ambassador through Bank of America’s Student Leaders program, helping community members navigate online banking and improve their financial literacy.
A dedicated mentor and leader, Michael has coached youth basketball at the Leahy Holloran Community Center, guiding young athletes in developing both their skills and confidence. He has also served his faith community as an altar server at Saint Ambrose Church for several years.
At Boston Latin School, Michael has been actively involved in a variety of extracurricular activities, including the varsity basketball team, the Vietnamese Students Society, ASIA Club, and the school newspaper, where he writes about sports. Through these experiences, he has strengthened his leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while remaining deeply connected to his culture and community.
