Umang Bansal

Umang Bansal was born in Cary, North Carolina. She grew up in the small town of Plainville, Massachusetts, before moving to Boston when she was eleven years old. Umang recently graduated from Boston Latin School as a member of the class of 2019. During the summer, she will be working in Attorney General Maura Healey’s office. In the fall, she is planning to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Umang became interested in government and law in her freshman year of high school, when she joined the Boston Latin School debate team. Researching topics ranging from carbon taxes to the President’s Authorization for Use of Military Force introduced her to various policy options and impressed on her the impact of choosing the right ones. Because of her time on the debate team, she became addicted to news sites and podcasts. She went on to intern at the Suffolk County Superior Court during the summer before her junior year. Eventually, her interest in government led her to join Student Council and volunteer on her Boston City Councilor’s political campaign, and her fascination with law drew her to the BLS Mock Trial team.

Outside of government, however, Umang also has a variety of interests and extracurriculars. She has been a member of the Boston Latin School DECA team, as well as its cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams. She has participated in a variety of entrepreneurial activities, including the Babson Entrepreneurial Leadership Academy and YouthCITIES’s March to May Bootcamp. She has also counted herself as a member of her local Venture Scout Crew.
