Representative Kevin G. Honan began his career in public service at
ABCD(Action for Boston Community Development). He coordinated the Summer
Youth Employment Program for Allston and Brighton children, and educated
low-incomeand elderly residents on weatherization techniques and fuel
assistance programs.Under Boston Mayor Raymond Flynn, Representative
Honan continued public servicein the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.
In 1987, Kevin Honan began his legislative service as a member of the
Committeeon Human Services and Elderly Affairs and a member of the Sub-Committee
on Foster Care, on which he still serves today. Early in his legislative
career, Representative Honan was chief sponsor of localaid amendments
for Boston and legislation to restore benefits for families going from
welfare to work. In addition, he fought for nursing home bed hold payments
and sponsored legislation to implement the Senior Pharmacy Program.
In1998, Representative Honan sponsored legislation which provides violenceprevention
curriculum to public schools throughout the Commonwealth. Thislegislation
was signed into law by Governor Cellucci in January 1999. In 1992, as
the Vice-Chairman of the Health Care Committee, RepresentativeHonan
worked to enhance both health and social service care. Bone marrowtransplant
insurance coverage,
pharmacy access for consumers, lead paint reformand the health security
plan which provides insurance coverage to unemployedworkers and their
families were among Representative Honans legislative priorities.
Representative Honan served as the Vice-Chairman of the Committeeon
Post Audit and Oversight in 1994 which is the legislative watchdog committee
for the legislature. In 1995-96, Representative Honan served as Chairman
of the House Ethics Committee and from 1996-2000 he served as Vice-Chairman
of the House Committee on Bills in the Third Reading.
In 2001-2002, RepresentativeHonan was Vice-Chairman of the Committee
on Rules.
Representative Honan served as the Chairman of the Boston Delegation,
acoalition of 22 senators and representatives representing Bostons neighborhoods,
for eight years. Currently, Representative Honan is the Chairmanof the
Committee on Housing and Urban Development He is the recipient of the
1998 Massachusetts League of Community HealthCenters Legislator of the
Year Award, ABCDs 1995 Legislator of the Year Award,the 1992 Bricklayers
and Allied Craftsman Legislator of the Year Award and the1991 Boston
Jaycees Ten Outstanding Young Leaders Award. Representative Honan graduated
from Boston College in 1981, received a Masters Degree in Management
Science from Lesley College through ABCDs Urban College program in 1991,
and in 1999 received his Masters of Public Policy Management from Harvard
University John F. Kennedy School of Government. Active in the West
End House, the Jackson Mann Community School and theAllston/Brighton
YMCA, Representative Honan sponsors youth and women basketballleagues
throughout the Allston/Brighton community.His
