Molly Coyne, a member of Boston Latin School’s Class of 2005, lives on Beacon Hill with her parents, her sister Meghan (BLS '01), and her two younger brothers, Jake (BLS '06) and Jared (BLS '09). She has enjoyed her experience at BLS thus far and is looking forward to her senior year.

Having been enrolled in Boston Public Schools since kindergarten, Molly greatly appreciates the school system and hopes to someday teach in the Boston Public Schools. For the past three summers she has worked as a camp counselor at the Kennebunk River Club in Kennebunk, Maine, where she planned activities and field trips for 3-8 year olds. At home in Boston, she babysits frequently and has worked at the Beacon Hill Nursery School as a library aide. She has been teaching religious education to the kindergarten class at St. Joseph’s Parish since 2002, and is looking forward to teaching again this year. Her love of working with children drives her desire to pursue a career in elementary education.

Molly has worked diligently at Boston Latin to meet the demands and challenges of the school’s rigorous curriculum, and her success has been acknowledged by her receipt of the Fidelity Prize in 2002 and, more recently, her induction into the National Honor Society. During her freshman year Molly sang in Boston Latin’s Ninth Grade Chorus. She currently runs for both the Indoor and Outdoor Varsity Track teams and performs annually in Boston Latin’s International Showcase, in which she showcases Irish Step Dancing.

For fourteen years Molly has been dancing in West Roxbury at the Hansen-Keohane School of Irish Dance. She and the Keohane dancers perform frequently for celebrations at churches, nursing homes, restaurants, and schools. Additionally, Molly often competes at local and regional levels, and had the pleasure of competing nationally in 1996 and 2002.

Molly enjoys playing the piano at the Community Music Center of Boston, where she has been taking lessons since the seventh grade. She also enjoys rooting for the Red Sox, reading, spending time with friends, and going to Goose Rocks Beach, ME each summer.

Molly hopes to attend college in New York City or Washington D.C., and plans to major in history. She also plans to continue dancing and studying Italian, and hopes to study abroad in either Ireland or Italy. She would love to one day participate in "Teach for America," a program through which she could have the opportunity to teach students in low-income areas of America in an effort to eliminate educational inequity.

Molly firmly believes that everybody can make a difference and positively impact others through their individual contributions to society, however great or small those contributions may be. Due to her interest in public service, and in the Boston Public Schools in particular, Molly is looking forward to a great summer as a Ward Fellow at City Hall.
