Born and raised in the South End, Lily Huang is a lifelong resident of Boston. Her parents and older brother immigrated to the United States from Guangzhou, China, shortly before her birth. Being raised by immigrant parents and being surrounded by the mixed cultural background of China and America have been an integral part of her identity. Prior to attending Boston Latin School starting in the 7th grade, she attended Josiah Quincy Elementary school and Josiah Quincy Upper school. At BLS, she participates in the Argo newspaper, the yearbook, and the Wolfpack Volunteers club. Her passion for politics and civic engagement was ignited when she interned at a nonprofit called MassVOTE in 8th grade. In that role, she educated youth about voting and conducted voter registration drives. She has continued ensuring youth have a voice in the city by being a member of the Youth Lead the Change committee of the Mayor’s Youth Council. In addition, she volunteers at Youth Enrichment Services during the school year where she teaches youth how to ski. She initially applied to the Ward Fellowship in hopes of learning directly from those in public service. She is excited to better the community that has played such a big part of her life during her time as a Ward Fellow.
